R-2 Systems began with the goal of developing a method of shipping and handling low voltage electric wire without the use of a wooden reel.

 

The first product that resulted from that goal was the 42" reusable plastic reel. R-2 Systems spent several months working with linemen to determine how the reel should function in the field. The reel that emerged from this process is made of a highly modified linear low density polyethylene which consists of a main drum and a flanged end that screws onto the drum. Coils of wire can be placed onto the drum either by using a forklift and a three-point sling or by placing the wire coil on a raised platform (eye sideways) and then slipping the drum through the coil.

 

To accommodate larger coils and trucks outfitted for 48" reels, R-2 has added a 48" plastic reel to its line of products. Based on the same technology of our original 42" reel, the 48" reel is guaranteed to perform for at least two hundred uses or two years. With the same removable flange design, it can be used again and again.
